Group Health & Safety Officer


Exclusive Contract Services Group is a major player in today’s marketplace, offering a wide variety of service provision, with a national capability. The original company was founded in 1987 to provide high quality cleaning and support services to all sectors of the marketplace – commercial, retail, leisure, governmental and educational.

We are now recruiting for the position of: Group Health & Safety Officer

We now require a Group Health & Safety Officer who will be responsible for ensuring our H&S legal compliance is maintained. To include all operational activities implementing best practice procedures for all levels of employees. Predominately based at the Head Office in Hatfield, travel will be required to various sites nationally and to Wokingham/Swindon offices.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:-

  • Working closely with the HR Director, Operations Director and Senior Management team across the group to develop and deliver the strategic business objectives to drive success through, leadership & Health & Safety strategies.
  • Act as the lead “Competent Person” for the company in all Health & Safety matters.
  • Complete internal quality audits and ensure recommendation and actions are implemented
  • Provide specific, competent HS advice to the organisation
  • Maintain and manage the organisation’s quality management programme including all accreditation to; ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & OHSAS 18001
  • Ensure the smooth transition from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001
  • Maintain all Safety Scheme in Procurement registrations
  • Ensure all accidents are reported, investigated thoroughly and lessons learned are cascaded across the organisation as remedial actions to avoid re-occurrence.
  • Report all RIDDOR events to the authorities within the statutory time frame.
  • Deal with all insurance claims including EL, PL and property and liaise with company insurers.
  • Manage the organisation’s pro-active approach to HS by;
  • Managing, recording and following up the in house Near Miss reporting scheme.
  • Managing the output of and assisting in the completion of internal assurance audits across sites
  • Managing the Fleet Risk Management system
  • Produce and cascade regular Tool Box Talk type training to Managers
  • Carry out reviews and updates of all site specific risk assessments and COSHH assessments
  • Liaise with operational managers to ensure that site specific controls are adhered to
  • Produce and update in house documentation / operational HS manuals
  • Attend pre-contract meetings and estimate H & S risks for tenders/quotations.
  • Monitor the competence of all sub-contractors and employees on site.
  • Carry out Health & Safety inductions to employees and sub-contractors.
  • Manage the safety and compliance of company premises, e.g. DSE, Fire Safety and management of first aid arrangements

The Person

Operational Manager Level with strategic and operational capabilities.
Knowledge of Contract Cleaning / facilities management would be ideal.
Need to be able to demonstrate a solution focused approach and have a proven track record in delivering creative and innovative learning and development initiatives
Membership of IOSH required – minimum Grad. IOSH level, ideally working towards CMIOSH

5 + years’ experience in a Health & Safety.

Proactive with good attention to detail.

Proficient IT skills including MS software.

Excellent communication skills at all levels, orally and written.

Ability to produce own documentation and detailed reports essential.

A company car, fuel card, mobile phone and laptop will be provided.
